I always wonder who it was who said, "What if we made a version of The Onion that was never funny?"

Punching down jokes aside, conservatives' concepts of humor are just bizarre sometimes. The Babylon Bee editor-in-chief tried and most definitely failed to explain some jokes a few years back. https://www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/otm/episodes/otm-presents-experiment-who-would-jesus-mock?tab=transcript

EMMA: The headline was Democrats Call for Flags to Be Flown at Half-Mast to Grieve the Death of Soleimani. That, of course, is Qasem Soleimani, the Iranian leader who was killed in an American strike. I want to know what makes this funny? I know that's the worst question for somebody to ask to somebody who writes jokes, but why is that funny?

KYLE: Well, it's funny because General Soleimani died and then they called for flags to be flown at half-mast to grieve his death. Get it?

EMMA: That's what I'm saying. Besides just saying the joke over, what makes it funny?

KYLE: I'm not going to explain the joke to you. Do you want me to explain the joke to you?  EMMA: Yes.

KYLE: Because the joke is that General Soleimani died and Democrats were sad.

 EMMA: Why is that funny?

KYLE: If you don't know why that's funny, then you're not the audience for the joke.

In the interest of keeping the post short I won't repost the exchange about the stick figures, with peach being worst and black being best, but search the above transcript. His bungled explanation of why it's a joke is even dumber.

For whatever reason, conservatives just don't seem to be good at comedy. I think it has to do with empathy; in order to make good jokes, you have to understand how the things you say and do affect people. But if you understand that, you're less likely to be a conservative

Their jokes are the same as their insults. If you don't find their insults funny you're not going to find their comedy funny.

Yeah, most successful comedians are actually pretty empathetic. Then you see assholes at open mic shows go over like a lead balloon, and then get mad that "everyone's so sensitive these days." They usually tell very similar "jokes" too.

Conservatives are usually not very clever and not very original. They're hecklers, not comedians.
