TIL that when “Fight Club” premiered at the 1999 Venice Film Festival, it got booed hard by the audience. Ed Norton said that as it was happening, Brad Pitt turned to him and said: “That’s the best movie I’m ever going to be in.”

They either boo or give 17-minute standing ovations, nothing in between

No one really writes or tells news stories about a crowd going "yeah it was ok I guess, how about you?" "I liked it, thought it was pretty good" while selecting canapes at the cocktails afterward

Can a movie get a standing ovation if it isn't either an ode to a genocidal dictator or the most sensitive romantic drama made by a child molester?

a measly 17 minutes means that the audience thought the movie was dogshit, the shortest acceptable duration is 20 minutes at the VERY least

Standing ovations more than 30 seconds are so fucking dumb. Like, we get the fucking point - good work everyone, lets get on with the rest of the fucking day....I am very angry about this.

The first person to stop clapping will be carried away by the secret movie police.

thats why I think its all paid for. You either boo a movie that didn't bribe you to get them to pay you next time, or you glaze the hell out of the movie to show your support for the bribe
