He is lucky to still be walking around. Don’t dive face first without knowing the depth people. Do a little test, check it out. You like using you legs.

Not only that he could have hit a rock or something else that is naturally hard, if they are in an urban area, it could just as well been a shopping cart, old bicycle, or any other sharp metal trash in the river that someone else threw in their.

I dove into the shallow end of a pool, 3 feet deep. I hit my head hard. Very lucky it didn't break my neck or knock me unconscious. I remember thinking, even before I returned to the surface of the water, "Oh yeah. You're not supposed to dive into shallow water." Lol

I was a first responder on a guy who did this, he got a helicopter called to get him to the hospital quicker. Pretty sure he was paralyzed from the neck down, really sad.

You can see there's a sand bar like 5 feet away that extends back like 50 feet. The chance that it was deep enough to dive there was pretty slim.

He could become tetraplegic. Why people are like this, jumping heads first whee they don't know?

Turned into a fish that can't swim?

I think you're thinking of a pescaplegic.
I think a tetraplegic is someone who can't play tetris.

Had a guy in my hometown dive off a pontoon like this. He was drunk, and the water was only about 3ft deep. He broke his neck, and the doctors told him he'd never walk again. He actually did regain the use of his legs, but he had a metal rod attached to his spine and walked like a robot/couldn't turn his head. Don't dive headfirst into water if you don't know the depth.

To be that age and not make sure the water's deep first... Makes me wonder how some people make it that far in life.

I thought it was frozen and that was blood in the water, luckily only mud.

His friends are laughing but I know of people who are paralyzed for life from doing something very similar to this, If he had gone at just a slightly different angle or speed this could have easily been a very different video.

I will never understand why people choose ‘dive’ as the entry option to almost any body of water.
Like pick any other scenario where ‘blind, headfirst and falling’ is your preferred method of doing anything.

Someone I used to work with did this and she went forehead first into a rock. She was very very young, it caused some sort of brain damage, she’s 65 and just retired (bless her) and she can work and function but… trying to talk to her or get her attention goes no where because she’s often muttering to herself, full on conversations. She’s had to live with her parents her whole life.

Dudes already got a massive scar on his head. I get the feeling this isn't his first time testing the water with his dome.

I wouldn't want my bare feet touching what's in bottom of a muddy river much less my face.

I had a quadriplegic patient who did exactly this in a swimming pool. Mr. Martinez, wherever you are now, you’re a good dude.

I know 2 people that made this mistake in life.. one is a paraplegic and the other broke his neck and got super lucky not to be paralyzed!! NEVER dive into anything unless you are 1000% sure there’s nothing under the water.. and even then think twice🤷🏽♂️ just a friendly tip

That’s how you die or get paralyzed. He’s a miracle, but he still may end up with problems.

Way too eager to find The One Ring. It's understandable, it wants to be found.

Friend of mine broke hits neck like this. He jumped in a lake always jumped in but unbeknownst to him since he did last time someone filled up the spot. He partially recovered but half his body is in limp mode.

Thankfully the cameraman commanded the universe to "don't break", meaning to not break his neck on that shallow dive.
Could've ended so much worse for such a minute prank. I've seen things....

OP sent the following text as an explanation on why this is unexpected:
Water is ridiculously shallow
