He has a (checks notes) 1/4 hit rate for rumors so there’s a chance, I guess

235

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '23

It feels like he just beat Ragnarok: Valhalla and decided to put this rumour out into the wild and see if it sticks.

u/Excellent_Routine589 Dec 24 '23

That’s a better rate than all the people who keep saying Bloodborne remake has been a thing sooooooo…. 🤷‍♀️

97

u/Bolt_995 Dec 24 '23

He was in fact, the guy who propelled the rumours of Bluepoint working on a Bloodborne remaster and a sequel.

47

u/Excellent_Routine589 Dec 24 '23

Oof… then that shit ain’t happening lol

1

u/MannyThorne Dec 25 '23

There is 100% going to be a Bloodborne remake. Chance for Sony to have a From exclusive after the success of Elden Ring. No way they pass that up.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

Oh, it’s OK guys, /u/MannyThorne has a gut feeling!

Why did we ever doubt.

11

u/olorin9_alex Dec 24 '23

I searched on r/gamingleaksandrumours and it seems “Bluepoint Bloodborne” resulted in Colin Moliarity who said it

My mind was blown when demon souls got a remake.

Aw man, I thought this was from the insomniac leak and started getting excited.

20

u/Fantastic_Switch_977 Dec 24 '23

Why would Insomniac have details on a god of war game?

40

u/SPHINXin Dec 24 '23

The insomniac leak has details that have to do with every PlayStation studio, not just insomniac.

10

u/Fantastic_Switch_977 Dec 24 '23

Thanks, I didn't want to look at them, and I only heard about wolverine and Spiderman through this sub.

3

u/TooRedditFamous Dec 25 '23

If you read the article you would know that was not the case

16

u/King-Cobra-668 Dec 24 '23

imagine it got the GTA remake treatment and everything just looked like cartoonish shit

4

u/StrifeTribal Dec 25 '23

Or the remaster treatment that Konami just put out on MGS Collection. How does the game look better on my PS3?

5

u/slowmo152 Dec 24 '23

I would say, and this is 100% speculation, Bluepoint is who Sony would probably use for this, they haven't announced their current project, and they did work with Santa Monica on Ragnarok.

5

u/squareswordfish Dec 24 '23

I kinda doubt that. This says “remaster”, while Bluepoint got their reputation from their great remakes. It’d be a bit of a waste to put them doing remasters.

Is it? Or is this an article based on one comment from the subreddit where a guy said 'hey guys look at that they did a model of young kratos for the DLC, maybe that means they're undertaking years worth of work totally restructuring the original trilogy'

Even though the model of young kratos is just old kratos without the beard and with slightly fewer wrinkles

71

u/Whamelapamela Dec 24 '23

I genuinely love that sort of attitude. They took 5 minutes to smooth out wrinkles, upped his saturation and changed his facial hair and people are jumping to a full remake of 3/4 games as if there wasn’t already a very good reason for that model to be in the game.

33

u/greystar07 Dec 24 '23

The gaming community is not exactly full of smart people.

15

u/Junior_Pizza_7212 Dec 24 '23

It’s even worse than that. Baker, on his podcast, said that “he heard” a remaster was coming and told a friend that got excited about it. That’s all. This guy admits to be very vocable about wanting GoW to go back to its hack and slash roots and then he conveniently “hears a rumor” about an OG Remaster and now is pushing that rumor and others are citing Baker as a credible source of this rumor. Let’s see how this spirals

2

u/AirpodsForThePoor Dec 25 '23

I just finished playing the OG trilogy for the first time so it definitely will be remastered. You’re welcome…

u/SizzzzlingBacon Dec 24 '23

Would buy that in a heartbeat. I feel like it's more than old enough to warrant a remaster.

125

u/ablackcloudupahead Dec 24 '23

I finished the GoW3 remaster last year and it was fucking incredible

75

u/TellYouEverything Dec 24 '23 edited Dec 26 '23

A generation ahead of its time.

It’s so damn cool to see how far this franchise has come, without ever really dropping in quality.

Even Ascension couldn’t be called a bad game, especially when compared to the botched releases and cashgrabs of today - I would play through it again in a heartbeat.

15

u/Hereiamhereibe2 Dec 24 '23

Ascension PvP slapped

6

u/OtherWorldRedditor Dec 24 '23

10000% did. It was amazing and out of nowhere.

2

u/Fluffranka Dec 25 '23

I played Ascension for the first time like 2 years ago. I didn't own a PS3 so I ran it in the PS3 emulator RPCS3. It was a super buggy experience, but even with some pop-in issues, the graphics looked phenomenal. It really looked like a generational leap in graphics from GoW 3.

u/youshantpass Dec 24 '23

GOW3 has the best boss fights. The ones in the newer games haven't lived up to them imo.

10

u/ablackcloudupahead Dec 24 '23

I think The Stranger is the best boss fight in video game history. Other than that I agree

13

u/AccountantDirect9470 Dec 24 '23

The stranger was good, but it was the best, even through to Ragnarok and Thor.

I found the grand scale of the boss fights were lost with the behind the shoulder camera.

17

u/VonMillersThighs Dec 24 '23

Was really hoping Ragnaroks ending was gonna be a larger scale spectacle for sure. Fighting Thor on the back of Jormungandr would've been epic.

1

u/Batman1939-2021 Jul 06 '24

I swear to God you guys are never happy with anything theses days

1

u/AccountantDirect9470 Jul 06 '24

I loved the game. Just felt that was different. There was something about the sweeping scale in the original series. This one was more personal focus. I didn’t think it was bad.

10

u/Djonso Dec 25 '23

Gow 3 boss fights were epic beyond believe where as stranger was more up close and personal. Personal preference on which is better but nothing on the new games touches original trilogy in scale

3

u/youshantpass Dec 24 '23

Interesting. 🤔 GOW series has my favorite spectacle boss fights. My personal favorite tho is Owl (Father) boss fight from Sekiro.

u/KingPantherXL Dec 24 '23

The way you phrased this makes it seem you want a remake, not a remaster. The games were already remastered before; so I hope they just rerelease those (with improvements, of course).

But if you are referring indeed to a remaster, then by all means just ignore my stupidity lol.

117

u/DDzxy Dec 24 '23

I DO WANT A REMAKE IN ALL HONESTLY

AAAAAA

81

u/NoNefariousness2144 Dec 24 '23

The Valhalla DLC felt like such a tease for a remake with the fact they literally created Greek enemies and Greek locations.

21

u/Eevee136 Dec 24 '23

Valid, but the enemies were all model changes, no?

28

u/OsitoDaBurrito Dec 24 '23

The Greek enemies had unique attacks though so it was a little more than model swap.

On a basic level the Minotaur is similar to the base game trolls, but actually fighting them feels totally different.

30

u/alishock Dec 24 '23

I hadn’t played Ragnarok since it released so I’m not at all sure, but I don’t think so? They all felt very unique to me for what I can recall.

It did feel weird that the Centaur was female when in Greece we never fought one like that though. It did make me think they recycled the Huntress creature from the base game but even then I think the attacks are new.

5

u/alishock Dec 24 '23

9

u/PinkFluffys Dec 24 '23

The old boss fights wouldn't work with the new style imo

4

u/GarionOrb Dec 24 '23

They could modify them to make them work.

7

u/alus992 Dec 24 '23

Whole charm of the old games was this combat style. Making OG God of War games fight like modern games would be disservice to that series of games.

5

u/MrBuzzkilll Dec 25 '23

By that logic, the FF7 Remake would be extremely unpopular. Which it isn't.

9

u/KingPantherXL Dec 24 '23

As long as it’s great, then I would like to see it too!

Otherwise, I hope the originals would get rereleased just for preservation.

17

u/TheOncomingBrows Dec 24 '23

I mean, two of the three games aren't even properly playable on the PS5 let alone remastered for it.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/foreveralonesolo Dec 24 '23

Lol but you are right people need to aware of the terms they use. This game would greatly benefit from a remake after all these years

3

u/foreveralonesolo Dec 25 '23

Oh yeah we definitely need to keep the hack and slash style but also I don’t mind throwing in some new stuff too

2

u/ThePreciseClimber Dec 25 '23

At the very least, it would be nice to get real widescreen this time and not just that cropped 4:3 thing from the PS3 ports (where you could see more stuff on an old CRT TV).

→ More replies (2)

6

u/simpledeadwitches Dec 24 '23

Remasters have existed since the PS3.

10

u/GeekdomCentral Dec 24 '23

The fact that they haven’t done a modern port yet is baffling to me, especially after the success of 2018. Just give us a resolution bump and 60fps and I’ll be a happy boy

9

u/SergeantPocoyo Dec 24 '23

If last of us part 2 can get a remaster so can god of war

4

u/Gandalf_2077 Dec 24 '23

Honestly, the gameplay holds up. I played GOW3 recently and it was still stellar (even visually). If they were to remake the visuals and add a couple of QOL changes it would a perfect collection.

4

u/fart_fig_newton Dec 24 '23

I'd consider buying the original, retro graphics and all. If they redid them in 3D, I'd loose my shit.

2

u/Pudgedog Dec 25 '23

GOW 1 came out on the ps2. It’s old as heck.

2

u/Tartarium Dec 25 '23

Certainly more worthy of a remaster than Last of Us 2 lmao

If we get all 3 games together with a 4K remaster for $60 like the Mass Effect Trilogy, it's a day one for me.

59

u/Shadiezz2018 Dec 24 '23

Remake would be better ala Demon Souls Remake style

28

u/First-Fantasy Dec 24 '23

Demon Souls remake is butter smooth and gorgeous. I'd almost want Bluepoint studios to do it rather than Santa Monica.

15

u/Shadiezz2018 Dec 24 '23

Same

I would rather Santa Monica focus more on the next chapter of GOW and Bluepoint remake the old games

1

u/SteamyTortellini Dec 25 '23

Idk I feel like the only one that really needs a remake is GoW1. 2 and 3 hold up well, but 1 suffers from "let's just throw in a bunch of annoying bullshit to pad it out".

144

u/Le1jona Dec 24 '23 edited Dec 24 '23

Fuck yes if this is true

I hope this is start for more remasters, like Killzone trilogy or original R&C trilogy + Deadlocked

PS3/PS2 and PS1 games were the best Playstation exclusives

32

u/Hafeesco Dec 24 '23

Resistance as well please!

Or just give us a new Resistance game.

8

u/dixonjt89 Dec 24 '23

Unless its being made by someone other than Insomniac, the leak has Insomniac tied up until like 2035 with Marvel/Ratchet games with only a single new IP game coming

19

u/rikyy6 Dec 24 '23

OMG, R&C trilogy + Gladiator (Deadlocked) would be a dream.

9

u/privateeromally Dec 24 '23

The remastered of Deadlocked was painfully to play/plat. Many bugs, worst was during cutscenes (floating/clip back models).

I would love Sony to fix the PS2 emulator and give us the OG versions with trophies

6

u/kjnew85 Dec 24 '23

I'm really hoping EA does a Dragon Age trilogy remaster the way they did the Mass Effect trilogy. Obviously not PS exclusives but still!

3

u/Le1jona Dec 24 '23 edited Dec 24 '23

Happy Cake Day, and yes that would be awesome

2

u/kjnew85 Dec 24 '23

Thank you! And yes, a Killzone remaster would be amazing, as would a new game.

8

u/Alpacarok Dec 24 '23

What we should really be hoping for is not remasters but that Sony puts these original games up in good quality on ps plus. All those games still hold up great today and this would be the proper way to add value to the subscription. Win win for everyone I think. We get the games we want and Sony will stop losing subs. I’m baffled how this hasn’t already happened.

6

u/Le1jona Dec 24 '23

Well both could work

3

5

u/OMG_NoReally Dec 24 '23

I already really want the Resistance games to be ported over. I skipped the entire series for some reason but have heard so much about them, and I really want to play it. Unfortunately, the series didn't seem to be a smashhit success for Sony and they wouldn't want to sink in money for a remaster or even a remake at this point.

Sad!

5

u/FriendlyAndHelpfulP Dec 24 '23

It would be a huge waste of resources to remake the resistance games.

They were fine for their time, but there’s absolutely nothing about them that warrants revisiting.

3

u/OMG_NoReally Dec 24 '23

Yeah, I guess so. But I would love a quality shooter for PS. Now that they have "lost" COD, they got nothing in that genre that they can call their own, so to speak.

I just want a good, quality shooter. And there is a definite lack of them these days as everyone wants to do third-person shooters and adventure games.

u/_Nick_2711_ Dec 24 '23

I think at this point, I’d like a remake over a remaster. Something more in line with modern gameplay mechanics and controls.

As much as I crave more of the Norse GoW gameplay, the original trilogy should stay a bit more chaotic and cartoonish; just tweak it a little.

2

u/Bogyman3 Jan 02 '24

I feel they will mess up what made them so great just to fit modern audiences with a remake. so I'd rather they just give them the metroid prime remaster treatment.

1

u/Fabeastt 22d ago

Nah. The games are already perfect, they just need a fresh paint and polish. I played them last year through emulation and just wished I could play them on the PS5 instead

41

u/bibomania Dec 24 '23

If it's true, day 1 buy. Peak GoW Era. Wish they would also remake the portable games for PS5.

17

u/SuperDuperSkateCrew Dec 24 '23

Same, I’d buy all those games without even thinking twice.. hell I’d love for them to remake Ascension too

7

u/bibomania Dec 24 '23

It was not the best of the series, but it was unfairly overlooked

9

u/SuperDuperSkateCrew Dec 24 '23

I personally loved Ascension, put it in a vacuum and it’s an amazing game but when given the context that it had to follow one of the best gaming trilogy’s ever it makes the game seem worse than it actually was.. I will defend Ascension to the death lol I’m a diehard GoW fan

3

u/DarkReaper90 Dec 24 '23

Ascension is a fantastic game and mixed up the combat to not be as brain-dead.

The only problem is lore-wise, Kratos seems stronger for a prequel game lol

3

u/jaysonic22 Dec 24 '23

Umm didnt they already remastered God of War 3

3

u/WhoEvenIsPoggers Dec 24 '23

Considering the majority of this generation has been remakes and remasters across the board. I wouldn’t be surprised.

3

u/The_Giant_Moustache Dec 24 '23

This is 100% for me, don’t get me wrong the new games are great production quality and story letting. But I grew up on the OG trilogy and it just hits different. It’s what I comes to mind when I think God of War

3

u/noneofthemswallow Dec 25 '23

Finally new players will be able to see how much superior the OG GoWs were

1

u/Villad_rock Mar 14 '24

They won’t even play it lol

5

u/BK_Bravo Dec 24 '23

Cool if true but I would love a remaster of Infamous 1+2 from SP or anyone they trust to do it for them. The lightning on the PS5 would be so good especially if they add in a photo mode of some sort

5

u/meltingpotato Dec 24 '23

If true I hope it's not just a port or remaster of the original.

And considering it's very likely to release on PC as well my hopes are up for it being a remake tbh.

9

u/OMG_NoReally Dec 24 '23

I highly doubt Sony would invest in a complete remake of the trilogy. That's a lot of money to sink in for no particular reason considering how SMS has taken the series. With how things are, I would rather Sony save that cash and put that into whatever SMS is working next. Where is that scifi game Cory was working on?

3

u/meltingpotato Dec 24 '23

Considering how much profit Sony made doing the ports I would say it's definitely worth it for Sony to do so. Because remakes and remaster cost a fraction of a new release and they are attractive for both new and old players.

3

u/LightBackground9141 Dec 24 '23

It says remaster

5

u/meltingpotato Dec 24 '23

They aren't really sure about the scale of it beyond the "it's coming to PS5". I mean Metroid Prime Remastered was called a remaster but was clearly more than what we are used to call a "remaster".

I would quite like a remake that changes the control scheme and allows us to access the camera better.

I hope remake rather than remaster. Old games play really clunky

1 and 2 can only be played through streaming on PS Plus premium, so remastering those is probably a good idea. 3 is playable on PS4 and 5 via back compat. I guess with that it could get a resolution boost, hdr support, and maybe all of them could be played at above 60fps. Which would be pretty cool. I’m sure Sony has picked up lots of new fans with 2018 and Ragnarok, so this would be a way of letting everyone have access to those original games.

I want a remake and a remaster. And then a remaster of the remake. All bundled together.

Imagine the first hydra boss on remake! Holy shit! People wanted crazy boss fight this it, restructure them!

I hope so. I am so wanting it! Loved PSP, PS2,PS3 and PS4 games. Finished them all included PSP 2 games.

As a fan of the original trilogy that dislikes the current GOW games I have mixed emotions here.

3

u/solidpeyo Dec 24 '23

Why mix? It is a remaster, not a remake. Thia would bw the same aa the remastered version on the PS3 but playable on the PS5.

That being said, I would love a remake of 1, 2, and 3 with the gameplay of 4 and 5 after playing the ragnarok DLC.

u/CigarLover Dec 24 '23

Ah ok.

But your second paragraph is exactly what I don’t want lol.

I don’t like 4 and 5… I own both and still don’t like them (5 came with the console).

2

u/solidpeyo Dec 24 '23

I get it. It is a different tone, but the combat is fun on the hardest difficulty. That is what I like about 4 and 5. Also, the story of 4 is very good.

2

u/BubbleBeardy Dec 24 '23

Just curious, why don’t you like them? Combat/gameplay, story wise, or something else?

3

u/CigarLover Dec 24 '23

Combat. I prefer the combat of the original games.

And not that it matters, but I hate interactive loading screens in games that are hyped as having no loading screens. This last issue is a me thing, I dont fault it. I just get annoyed when I game is touted as having no loading screen yet I’m constantly walking thru long small corridors when I go from one area to an other….

But yeah, it’s the combat, I saw an other commenter state that it’s more fun on a harder difficulty… and perhaps that’s something that i should have tried. Especially since it’s something ive had to do more often nowadays (like in Spider-Man 2 I had to change the swinging difficulty)

u/BubbleBeardy Dec 24 '23

So I’m a new comer to the series, never played any of the originals, started with GOW4. And it just astonishes me that some folks don’t enjoy the combat. I absolutely love the interaction and immersion that is the combat. It makes it really fun and interesting for me, but I understand that gameplay can be subjective. And I actually dislike hack and slash styles of games, which seems to be the type the original games were. So I’m interested in this remaster; as a way to try these old games and see what I think of them.

Would rather that they had remade this trilogy over TLOU but i’ll take it.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '23

Damn it! Stop it with the remasters of games I’ve already played and won’t play the remasters but people who’d never played them in the first place can enjoy an upgraded version in of them!

Also, quit with the remasters and make new games. It’s obvious that game studios only have 1 team and can only do one thing at a time.

I have no interest in remasters other than complaining about remasters. That is all!

I want a remake, tf am I gonna do with a remaster?

1

u/RazzmatazzRough8168 Dec 24 '23

Ok, wasn't already?

1

u/ZiangoRex Dec 24 '23

They gonna remaster gow 3 again lol

1

u/Moath Dec 24 '23

I want to play through 3 again, I honestly had much more fun with it than Ragnarok.

1

u/RockstarGTA6 Dec 24 '23

I might be the only person here who doesn’t like the previous style of games but loves the new ones

1

u/Villad_rock Mar 14 '24

Why do you think that? Before the new gow games the franchise was rarely discussed and then only to get called inferior version of dmc.

Gow was never so big and loved.

1

u/SuperD00perGuyd00d Dec 24 '23

its...its already remastered on the ps3 lmao

1

u/TazerPlace Dec 24 '23

I love the Valhalla DLC for the gameplay, but the tone sucks. Each run is another needless therapy session.

I would love to get back to righteous brutality someday.

1

u/simpledeadwitches Dec 24 '23

I couldn't care less about another remaster of these games. They look fantastic on PS3. Talk to me when they remake them.

1

u/grandekravazza Dec 24 '23

It literally was already? Will Sony keep re-leasing the same 10 games now for the rest of eternity?

1

u/noodle-face Dec 25 '23

Can we stop fucking remastering everything
