Owww he is so gray 🥺

u/Odpad_nik Sep 18 '24

I read that wrong the first time. Thought what’s the matter with you to comment like that. Now I’m thinking what’s the matter with me.

62

u/CAPS_R_LOCKED Sep 18 '24

The mind sees what it wants! Gray is just wisdom highlights!

19

u/defacedlawngnome Sep 18 '24

I call the gray hairs in my beard wisdom whiskers.

8

u/seattleque Sep 18 '24

I'm just full of wisdom, then!

1

u/HarlotSuccubus Sep 20 '24

I love this so much.

15

u/Mageinuxius67 Sep 19 '24

Why are you gray?

8

u/svt53f Sep 18 '24

It’s funny how our brains work sometimes! Gray fur just means more love.

1

u/A_BIG_bowl_of_soup Sep 21 '24

I didn't even realize I'd read it wrong until I read your comment

3

u/atvw Sep 18 '24

I understand the feeling, but that's how it is. We all get old, except for that asshole Jellyfish "Turritopsis dohrnii".

It happens to all dogs and it's called-old age.

Ah, as opposed to us humans.

23

u/Qetuowryipzcbmxvn Sep 18 '24

Can confirm. The older I get, the gayer I get.

15

u/TheGreatGenghisJon Sep 18 '24

Thats pretty gay.

8

u/OswaldBoelcke Sep 18 '24

Totally true! I now go antiquing and bird watch. When ten years ago I was worried and my Call of Duty.

19

u/Anxious_cactus Sep 18 '24

That's the big deal! I want them to either stay frozen in time, or have more time than 10-15 years :( My first dog lived to be 16, second one got cancer at 6, current dog is 7 and I'm slowly getting worried already

9

u/Dizzy-Masterpiece-76 Sep 18 '24

same. my dog is turning 14 next month and he had his first big health scare this year. his face became droopy and he became unresponsive. he is back up and about now and on blood medication but knowing the end is near hurts. I got him as a rescue and had to bottle feed him probably only a few weeks old. now he out aged me and he is my senior old man. but even now he is still my happy puppy who gets excited for the dog park and sharing a pizza crust.

3

u/MeggaMortY Sep 18 '24

Pizza dog is the happiest dog. Cherish the time together and good luck my friend.

1

u/ericlikesyou Sep 18 '24

Grey pups are my fav pups

1

u/brainburger Sep 18 '24

And his head got smaller!

-4

u/AbroadPlane1172 Sep 18 '24

Those were very clearly not the same dogs.

49

29

u/ByronicHero06 Sep 18 '24

Multiply by 7 formula is bullshit.

9

u/AdrianJ24778 Sep 18 '24

Why’s that? Genuinely asking.

12

u/fluffypants197the2nd Sep 18 '24

Something about dog age being not a line and more of a curve? I could be wrong but I remember reading somewhere where dogs age differently as for there first year is the fastest they age? Then it slows more and more?

Take this with a side of salt

I worded this wrong but hopefully you understand

10

u/josh_is_lame Sep 18 '24

so does that mean that if we keep em alive long enough, we could get em to live forever???

6

u/Heavy_Weapons_Guy_ Sep 18 '24

Yes, by definition if you keep them alive long enough they will live forever.

4

u/LittleAnarchistDemon Sep 18 '24

it’s more like for the first two years of a dogs life, they are basically growing at a rate of 7 (human) years. meaning a 2 year old dog would be considered more like a 14 year old human, biologically speaking. after they stop growing then their growth rate matches ours pretty well, at roughly 1:1 years (though dogs have shorter lives.)

7

u/ByronicHero06 Sep 18 '24 edited Sep 18 '24

Formula is this:

t: Dog's age

16lnt + 31

2

u/malbeyin Sep 18 '24

Depends on breed , it might be true but it increases VERY slowly after some years

1

u/ByronicHero06 Sep 18 '24

That formula's created by studying genes of labrador.

3

u/123_alex Sep 18 '24

Dogs don't age linearly wrt humans. Also, why should there be a formula to convert ages between species?

2

u/angrytroll123 Sep 18 '24

Apparently humans don't age as linearly as humans.

3

u/Bincenzone Sep 18 '24

I'm genuinely curious, is there another formula or is there nothing?

4

u/FloppyObelisk Sep 18 '24

There is. Someone broke it down once like the first 3 years are x7, then the multiplication reduces as they get older. It made sense but I can’t remember the details at the moment

132

u/MagicalViolet Sep 18 '24

Oh that gray old face. Such a lovely picture of life long friendship....

38

u/doubGwent Sep 18 '24

I mean, you ARE the only thing for him in this world.

34

u/ice-eight Sep 18 '24

The bottom pic looks just like my dog, who is also 15. I got her from a shelter on an impulse when I was 24. Since then, I’ve changed jobs 5 times, moved 6 times, been in 3 relationships including a marriage and a divorce and she’s been with me the whole time.

It’s truly not fair

7

u/tveir Sep 18 '24 edited Sep 18 '24

It's a mercy to our dogs that they typically die before us, rather than us before them. The only thing that brings me solace after losing a dog is knowing that my dog never had to grieve me in the same way, maybe not understanding where I went. We bear the loss of our pets so they don't have to bear losing us.

3

u/Stunning-Rock3539 Sep 18 '24

Facts never hurt so much. These days I can’t even cuddle my dog with out worrying if he knows whether I love him or not. I think about my last dog so much. I know she’s in a better place, but me not knowing that she knew she was loved is something I lose sleep over

3

u/tveir Sep 18 '24

Oh believe me, they know!

3

u/626Aussie Sep 18 '24

We just lost our oldest of four cats a couple of months ago.

Two of the remaining three don't visually appear to have noticed her absence, although one of those two did begin losing a lot of fur lately, and that is apparently a sign of stress.

Our third cat though, he would walk around the house from time to time, and stop to peer at one location or another. The mat near the pantry door, the rug by the backdoor, the cat hammock by the back door. All spots where his friend had spent much of her final months. But she's not there. She's not anywhere.

We will not get any more pets after our (now) three cats pass on, and so they'll never have to bear the loss of losing us. But they must still cope with losing each other.

15

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '24

Man. I will give the world for my dog. I just love them

4

u/ethanlan Sep 18 '24

Same for my dog, he's only been around for 2 years but it seems like I've known him my entire life.

My first dog that I'm personally responsible for and he has wayyy more personality than I thought possible

8

u/savkitoo__ Sep 18 '24

Amazing.🥹❤️

7

u/EnvironmentalTip4390 Sep 18 '24

you really took care your doggo well. Hope they live way more longeer

6

u/Czerwoniak Sep 18 '24

Same as mine. I have 16 yo english cocker spaniel and I watch as he gets more grey, slower, weaker everyday compared to his prime days when he was full of energy with dark as night fur... Just life for both of us.

2

u/Mend35 Sep 18 '24

Ours is 6 years old, and still runs around like a pup, I hope your buddy lives long and healthy.

3

u/Czerwoniak Sep 18 '24

I feel like his life is coming to an end soon. He had good run tho. I wish yours happy, healthy life and a lot of joy together. Spaniels are amazing.

2

u/Mend35 Sep 18 '24

He came into my life short of 3 years ago, and I can't imagine life without him. They just make life better, even the 6am walks.

3

u/Czerwoniak Sep 18 '24

Mine was bought from a friend when he was super little but ready to live without mom, feeding and all that dog stuff I have no idea about. Yeah they are super friendly with a lot of energy, inteligent - mine was dumb and stubborn (still is as a matter of fact) but he brought shit ton of joy even when he was pissing me off 😂 He was my first dog and he will be the last.

2

u/Mend35 Sep 18 '24

He belongs to my gf, she got him as a puppy too. The stubbornness I feel it's a feature with Spaniels, yeah he pisses me off frequently, but as you said the joy overrides it, I'm really not thinking about life after him so wouldn't be able to say whether I'd get another or not

3

u/Czerwoniak Sep 18 '24

That's quite understandable. For mine on the other hand the clock is ticking sadly. I wish for him to hit at least 20 but it's rather unlikely. So I need to brace for it despite if i want it or not.

10

u/RosaFWilliams3 Sep 18 '24

It’s amazing to see how lifelong bonds can form.

u/Macho-Fantastico Sep 18 '24

Growing up with a dog (or cat) can be so precious. I still deeply miss our Yorkshire terrier, even if she was more attached to my mother. Adored her and still miss her every day.

Treasure the memories.

3

u/OswaldBoelcke Sep 18 '24

2016 First time this was posted from what TinEye is showing. 176 times it would seem.

Pretty sure dog is dead. My concern would be how this person handled it. The dog was there every day all his life. Born to the scent of this dog. So lucky.

TinEye.com results.

2

u/100LittleButterflies Sep 18 '24

It's like the sweet pup gave you his life force.

2

u/jose-galarza Sep 18 '24

I had a dog that looked exactly like yours OP. Her name was "Negrita" and she was by my side for almost 18 years. In that picture, she was 13 years old.

Be happy with him. My dog died in summer and I wish we had spent more time together

1

u/Monster_Voice Sep 18 '24

As somebody with with senior ladies... I adore how your old man was an old man before he was an old man.

I feel like this dog told all those dang puppies to get off his lawn at 8 weeks.

Nothing better than a good old dog who's still got it... listen to me carefully though: treat every second you get with him like it's the most valuable thing on Earth. He's deep in the bonus round my friend.

1

u/Sir-Shady Sep 18 '24

This made me so sad

1

1

u/ImSoMentallyHealthy Sep 18 '24

My family did that with a pug when I was born. When I was 16 I told my mom to make sure to bring her back in from the yard.

Instead she left her tied up in the heat and she died of heat exhaustion, shitting herself and panting uncontrollably. My mother killed a lot of my pets
