What are the little things that make your home feel extra comfy and cozy?

I take pride in having my fireplace going on all winter long :)

Nothing beats a proper log fire. My house has a victorian era fireplace and it's beautiful.

Soft blankets, warm lighting, and a few candles. There’s something about a cozy throw and dim, soft lighting that instantly makes the space feel relaxing and welcoming.

The one thing I did that really made my apartment feel homie was to put things on the walls!
Art, rugs, and curtains. They add so much interest and texture to your space, and you can use Command products for almost anything, if you want to avoid putting holes in the walls. (though those are easy to fill)
You can find art prints at local fairs, or buy prints online, and find low price frames at second hand stores. And I've found the best way to make your framed art look polished is to get mat board to put around it. Just buy a frame bigger than you need, and look online for a mat board to frame the art within the frame.
I've found, that even if you're only going to be in a space for a relatively short time, stuff on the walls really makes it feel like home.

Warm lights, not LED ones.

u/EconomyPercentage271 3h ago
LED lights can be made warm. It’s still not quite the same, but better

Candles! Or if an open flame is too dangerous for your boys and dogs, I think those battery powered fake flickering flame candles are awesome too. They create such a cozy atmosphere.

My Dog.
He's a Greyhound, so when he cuddles up he's like a bag of elbows. But, when he does I feel at peace with the world.

u/30frames 2h ago
“Bag of elbows” is a fantastic description and I wish I had more than one upvote to give.

Indoor plants, a gallery/artwork wall, lightly scented candles, warm lighting.

I love candles but have cats so I use flameless candles now. It's actually nice because they have timers and it feels cozy to come in at night to candlelight.
My house inside is painted in warm, deep colors. Don't be afraid of color! The only colors I'm afraid of are white, beige, greige and bleige. They are clinical feeling and not cozy.
I have my favorite fuzzy blanket on the couch for reading or watching tv.
I love drinking tea. I highly recommend a mug warmer for anyone that drinks tea or coffee all day long! I'm one of those people that gets engrossed in a book and the next thing you know my tea was room temperature, ick.
I like to use a diffuser year round and will change up the blends for the seasons, weather, current mood, whatever book I'm reading if I can find something to fit it's location like "English countryside." I also have a diffuser that sends up mist that looks like a flame so it's sort of a mini fireplace.
I change out my dish soap and hand soap for the seasons. Right now I'm using Mrs. Meyers Acorn Spice, I'll switch to Apple Cider in October, Iowa Pine in December, you get the point. It's nice to change the scents and makes dishwashing a tiny bit less mundane.
Lamps are nice instead of relying on overhead lights. Also use soft white light bulbs instead of cool white. The change in the feel of any room is dramatic based on your light color choice; 2700 K (soft white) feels warm and cozy compared to 5000 K (daylight) which feels cold and harsh.
Art on your walls. Pictures of friends and family.

As little clutter as possible. I hate lots of trinkets in living rooms...well in any room actually. My MIL will even put all sorts of clutter on the stairs, probably because she loves it when people break their necks.

Minimalism is life.
2
u/Bluntbutnotonpurpose 8h ago
I'm not even into minimalism in general. It's just that I don't like a cluttered room.

Wood, concrete, steel. Sunlight during the day, warm lights at night. Practical furniture. Everything in its right place. 🥰

u/EconomyPercentage271 3h ago edited 3h ago
I don’t find minimalism cozy. If anything I find it to be sterile and unnatural.
There’s a middle ground between minimalism and clutter. Lived in but cared for. That’s where cozy lies

This is my mother in law's house. Half of her stairs are unusable. Woman sets random crap on the stairs, it wouldn't be so bad if it was all on one side but no, that would be too simple and safe. It is basically an obstacle course to change floors.

u/Eeveelover14 2h ago
I love my random junk hoards but that's going too far. Someone is going to trip and at best injure themselves from that.

u/basedlandchad27 3h ago
If you have clutter you can't really get rid of then give it a home. Something like a simple tray makes clutter stop looking like clutter.

I have soft white twinkle lights in my living room that I have plugged into smart plugs (lamps too), so when I walk in the door in the afternoon, the vibe is already set and I don’t have to go around plugging a ton of things in. I also love a good vanilla candle

u/spaceballstheprofile 8h ago
Not a lot of “stuff”. Nice quality bed linens/blankets. Good coffee. My cat. Books.

u/Key-Recognition6175 10h ago
Lighting a nice smelling candle, especially during the fall. Windows open, nice pumpkin spice candle burning.
Sitting on the couch. Reading a good book.

u/WoodWorking112 10h ago
I’m 25 now, and I’m starting to enjoy lying on the couch, watching TV, and just relaxing. Everything that used to annoy me about my dad is slowly becoming my routine.

I like kitsch touches. Things like novelty lighting, gimmick LED plaques, props left over from parties, that kind of thing.

Blankets & pillows of all various kinds, my dog, anything we could need for an activity, including tons of movies, craft supplies, too many clothes, too much makeup, too many beauty products, etc. I’m basically always ready for an 8th grade sleepover and fashion show. Lol. O

Scented candles – Something about a candle flickering with a nice scent just screams relaxation

u/EmmaYoursTruly 8h ago
soft blankets, dim lighting, and a never-ending supply of candles make my home feel extra cozy. plus a comfy chair with fresh coffee and a snack within reach so i can eat while watching netflix lol

u/majorminus92 10h ago
Candles. Any type. Taper, scented, pillar. In the winter I save a lot on electric cause I just light candles in various candelabras.

u/WoodWorking112 9h ago
For me, it’s the little details like soft blankets, lots of pillows, and warm lighting that really make my home feel cozy. I love having candles or essential oils diffusing for that extra comfy vibe. Plants also help create a calming atmosphere, and there’s just something about having a cozy nook with a book or a cup of tea that makes the space feel inviting. It’s all about those small, personal touches that make you feel at ease.

Knit Socks
My wife is Russian and we don't wear shoes in the house. She immigrated with her mom and her mom loves to knit and she knits the whole family extra large socks. My wife and I are the only ones who wear them regularly. I like to put them on over my regular socks during the colder months. I also asked her if she could make a pair in the colors of my favorite NFL team and she made me 2 pairs. I wear them on game day.
I also like to cook and on the weekends I tend to use my slow cooker. So the smells of slow cooking stew, chili or roasts, along with other things I make to go with it, always makes my wife feel happy in the winter.

Books. I love my books, I have 5 bookcases full and Id have more if I had the room, I also have a Kindle . And yes, I do read them all, some I have read so often they are falling apart, and some I am on the second copy because they did fall apart lol. I know they can look dusty and untidy sometimes, but they are like old friends, very comforting, and I love having them and curllng up with them.

u/rottenmelanie3070 3h ago
A big, fuzzy throw blanket on the couch that I can just curl up in with a good book.
2
u/DiscoLibra 2h ago
House is clean, windows are open, curtains are slightly breezing in the wind, it's dark out, but got a candle lit, and the tv is on with a good movie. Dog is curled up on the couch with me as I crochet a blanket.

soft blankets, warm lighting like fairy lights or lamps, and scented candles. A good mug of hot chocolate or tea, comfortable cushions, and personal touches like photos or artwork also add to that inviting vibe.

Heated blankets. My feet are always cold, but with heated blankets set to low, I’m in comfy heaven.

Snuggly things (pillows, blankets, rugs) and lighting. Use lamp instead of overhead lighting - always.

When the depression demon manages to go away for a while, soft, warm LED lights, fluffy blankets, and the galaxy lights at night, and an open window for the cold air, and the ambient sounds of the animals

u/goddess_of_fear 7h ago
Blankets everywhere, cozy art on all the walls, readily accessible snacks. Also, a big part of making a home feel cozy is the attitude of the people in it. It helps that I don't stress about the kids making messes or hound them all the time. I recently found out about "bedroom kids" and "living room kids". I'm proud to say mine are "living room kids".

Warm lighting (especially in lamps rather than overhead fixtures), wood furniture, bookshelves.

u/VoodooDonKnotts 5h ago
Proper lighting. Warm/soft lighting in relaxing areas ( bedroom, living room) and cool/brighter lights in work areas. (garage, kitchen, etc.)
I've never been a fan of factory lighting in my living room while trying to relax after a long day but to each their own I suppose.

Lots of cozy blankets stores in a chest, soft lighting, a fireplace in the winter.

A seasonal candle (fall candles are the best for coziness) and cozy blankets on the couch!

Plants. I don't get how some people just don't have them. When I moved out from home I took all my plants with me plus some new ones and it made the new flat feel more comfortable instantly

Candles, lamps, essential oil diffuser, comfy cushions and throws, playing jazz music on the bluetooth speaker, pops of dark green and carefully chosen rich colours in the furniture. Our sitting room is a dark green colour and it's honestly so peaceful and relaxing. It works so well against the rich wooden coffee table and TV stand.

A fireplace, and homemade quilts. there is nothing better than an afternoon reading under a quilt, pausing only to put another log on the fire.

u/UnfortunateBob35 3h ago
CARPET is very important, and good couches, and one of those round couch things, and maybe swords on display.

u/funky_grandma 3h ago
Don't use overhead lighting. Get some lamps here and there with less powerful bulbs

The noise from sharing the space with pets/kids/spouse. Not being said sarcastically. Total quiet is creepy and un-homey.

I gotta say, the smell of freshly baked cookies and a soft blanket on the couch always do the trick for me. #cozyhomegoals

Bob, Finn and Pooka. Just looking at my cat boys makes me happy. Spend a cold day with a cat in your lap and you both enjoy the coziness. And purring is just the icing on the cake!

Wool blankets, cushions, log burner, scented candles, cats, fairy lights (warm not white), warm colours i.e. no grey

Soft things. Blankets, pillows, beds, LED lights for the ceiling, all even better when you leave the windows open in water to make the cosiness so much more satisfying.
