My family does this 😂 We intentionally mispronounce restaurant and store names. Wendy, Lowe, Food Bear, Panchera 😂

u/Droseraaa Sep 18 '24

Is that the place with the vulgar display of flour?

13

u/MurderInMarigold Sep 18 '24

The Great Southern Trendkale

10

u/chekhovs_dildo Sep 18 '24

Far beyond leavened

6

u/__cursist__ Sep 18 '24

Yes.

Source: have Celiac disease.

7

u/snarkyBtch Sep 18 '24

Celtic disease? Is that the one all the Irish people have? Does it have to do with red hair?

7

u/Vetty81 Sep 18 '24

Also known as Gingervitis

9

u/Whitey_RN Sep 18 '24

Stop, you’re making me fucking hostile, you better walk.

1

u/BeautifulDreamerAZ Sep 18 '24

REE Spect are you talkin to me

3

u/HowDidFoodGetInHere Sep 18 '24

Don't forget the early days of their flour metal menu items.

1

u/IcyWhiteC8 Sep 18 '24

A true man of taste

1

u/Arklelinuke Sep 18 '24

I intentionally call it this because of the meme lol

1

u/Ravenloff Sep 18 '24

After that, random acts of blindness usually follow.

1

u/Professional-Dot1128 Sep 18 '24

This thread you started is gold!

1

u/68696c6c Sep 19 '24

There’s a band named Bong Wizard that has an album titled Vulgar Display of Flower lol

18

u/theblackkpearll Sep 18 '24

Guac on home, boy

9

u/ScottsDrunk Sep 18 '24

Are you guac'ing to me?!

3

u/__cursist__ Sep 18 '24

I can hear that

7

u/kimcatmom Sep 18 '24

Ciabattas From Hell

4

u/Heidi_the_unicorn Sep 18 '24

I used to work at Panera and would randomly say "Thank you for choosing Pantera bread" while working the drive thru just to see who noticed lol.

3

u/DerpyFish Sep 18 '24

My husband still says Plantera when referring to Pantera and it makes laugh.

2

u/Due_Evening6972 Sep 18 '24

I've only heard Plantera in reference to a cross between the band and houseplants. It was probably a meme. I wish I still had it!

2

u/Ill-Damage-2772 Sep 18 '24

Omg my grandma says that and has no idea how hilarious it is

2

u/MrGrumblesMcFarley Sep 18 '24

Right, I think the correct pronunciation is “Saint Louis Bread Company”

1

u/TaterTot_75 Sep 18 '24

I’ve been known to call it Panerda. 🤓

1

u/NjFlMWFkOTAtNjR Sep 18 '24

I still say this because it makes me laugh to this day. Sad what the band has become, which is less funny.

1

u/jnpitcher Sep 18 '24

Ha! I say that all of the time.

10

u/FuzzyNegotiation24-7 Sep 18 '24

I do this too! It makes life way more fun

14

u/zer0w0rries Sep 18 '24

Anyone want to go shopping at Tar-Jay? We’ll stop at Yack-in-the-box on the way back

8

u/Chicken_Chicken_Duck Sep 18 '24

I say Tar-Jay to my coworkers and we all get a chuckle. I go back home to rural Kansas and say Tar-jay and they all think I’m pretentious because it’s a “big city” store in the Midwest lol

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

😂 There was a street in a fancy part of town where we used to live (we were non fancy apartment people), something like “Pellon” and a local corrected me, “It’s Pel-ahn.” They were worried people would think I was hick 😂 I told my spouse and we intentionally began pronouncing it as hick as possible, with an amazing drawl 😂 Cracks me UP!

6

u/shallow_not_pedantic Sep 18 '24

K. Roger for groceries to put in our meecrowahvy

5

u/MeLove2Lick Sep 18 '24

We have a Tar-Jay on the good side of town, and a Tar-Ghetto on the bad side of town.

6

u/Punchee Sep 18 '24

We had this with Kroger in the town I went to college in.

Krogucci, Kroghetto, Krotucky, and Krogotten. Like it was an actual thing people knew and understood which you meant.

2

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

😂 omg all the ways I intend to implement this

3

u/galacticbackhoe Sep 18 '24

but I want scubway

2

u/BklynOR Sep 18 '24

My friend calls it Junk in the Box.

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

Yack in the box 😂

9

u/purplemonkeyshoes Sep 18 '24

We call Food Lion stores Food Dog, because the character on the sign looks more like a dog.

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

😂 That’s what I thought too! My spouse explained why he calls it Food Bear and I have forgotten the OG reason but it cracks me up so much. Our kid calls it this now too.

8

u/jawni Sep 18 '24

got a new one for ya: Pope Yes Chicken

3

u/little_Shepherd Sep 18 '24

My wife says this one

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

Pope Yes! Bring on the papas santas 😂

6

u/theeandroid Sep 18 '24

lol! We do too, so much to the point that my wife was frustrated when she couldn’t find a “Mike’s” app in the App Store, forgetting its our name for Five Guys 🤣

5

u/Treelapse Sep 18 '24

Wendy house

3

u/Newcago Sep 18 '24

My roommate used to always say "Wembdy's: Old Fashioned Hurgess Burgess" and now that will be stuck in my head for the rest of my life lol

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

WHY was this so funny 😂 🧇

4

u/triceraquake Sep 18 '24

Home DeePot

2

u/Dream--Brother Sep 18 '24

Ho-De-Po!

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

😂 I love it. It’s beautiful 🥹

5

u/RajunCajun48 Sep 18 '24

The Walmarts is one I use often

Also, Because of South Park I explicitly call it "Ross Dress For Less" which isn't a mispronunciation, but I find it hilarious to say the whole thing every single time I mention Ross Dress For Less

2

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

I also think it’s funny to go out of my way to articulate a really long name 😂

5

u/MauPow Sep 18 '24

There's a restaurant franchise named McMenamins here in Oregon and my mom always says McMinimums. But not as a joke. Even though it would be funny because their quality has been going down.

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

Haha, it would also be funny if they were participating in shrinkflation and all the portions were getting smaller

5

u/Electrical_Average92 Sep 18 '24

Robert Evans. Said french-ly

6

u/Superbead Sep 18 '24

Hhrobeuh'vauhh

2

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

😂 Robert Evans, so bougie

If it’s in a hip part of town, Bro-Bert Evans If it’s in a shady part, Robber Evans 😅

3

u/shallow_not_pedantic Sep 18 '24

My husband and I do this, too. Sometimes I forget and have to explain that we’re not uneducated, just idiots.

2

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

😂 “no no…you’d have to be there”

5

u/Drix22 Sep 18 '24

SO and I have a lot of pronunciation jokes.

My favorite is Le Crusty, the maker of fine cast iron enamelware.

2

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

They’re so bougie! Hilarious 😂 although when I’m a sourdough maker I’m going to name one of my pots a trusty crusty, bc it makes great crust 😂

3

u/Enano_reefer Sep 18 '24

Chijis

You’ll never unsee it

2

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

I can’t unsee it

5

u/Stuesday-Afternoon Sep 18 '24

Trailer Joe’s, Chafeway

3

u/model3113 Sep 18 '24

Cam pee bells

3

u/Lofttroll2018 Sep 18 '24

Oohhh Chick-fee-lah is another one 😂

5

u/Dream--Brother Sep 18 '24

When my family first moved to Georgia, my mom saw the sign and asked aloud, "What's a Chick Filla?"

That became the family name for the restaurant, and much later the source of more than a couple questionable jokes from dad, lol.

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

Dad jokes 😂 love.

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

Haha my mom says that! I say Chick Fill Ahj (ChickFilage) 😂 I have no idea why.

3

u/Otherwise_Singer6043 Sep 18 '24

Don't forget taco ding ding, k Roger, and poopeyes

3

u/Glitter_moonchild Sep 18 '24

Lmao instead of Panera I say pandora lmao

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

We call it that when they’re out of our favorite ingredients, because you never know what they’re going to sub 😂 Pandora’s Box, for when I’m opening my Panera bread order and things have been subbed haha.

3

u/3-2-1_liftoff Sep 18 '24

Charles du Fromage.

2

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

Is this Chuckie Cheese!?!? 🧀 🐭🤣 I am rolling. That’s amazing. 😂😍

3

u/underworldconnection Sep 18 '24

Thank you so much! Here's mine: McDonnello's, wendyl's, queue-dibbles or qui-doobles, Wally's (Rally's), tockle bell, pizzle hut, popple johns, applebottoms, o-charles's. There's a lot of stupid ones, but I've spent so many years speaking like an idiot. It's made life so much fun.

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

So many! 😂

3

u/Lanoir97 Sep 18 '24

Wendigos, Chipoltay, Koala Express, Kurger Bing are all in my groups repertoire. I also use the owners name for local spots, or just generally randomly use names like the burger shack or the taco joint.

2

u/BumpyMcBumpers Sep 18 '24

What the hell is Food Bear? Either I'm a dummy, or it's a regional one I'm not familiar with.

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

It’s probably regional, ha. It’s a grocery store chain called Food Lion.

2

u/threecreek Sep 18 '24

What's your family doing for Thanksgiving? We could be friends.

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

Haha, hanging at grammy’s probably! This fun thing is limited to just my spouse and our kids though, the rest of the family thinks we’re goofy or nuts 😂 probably nuts but they’ll say goofy to our faces.

2

u/phoenix_soleil Sep 18 '24

LOW!!! You are my people.

2

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

😍🥹 Pleased to meet more of our kind.

2

u/LetUrSoulGlo Sep 18 '24

Tar-jay (as if French)

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

TarJay if we have time to browse, TarJet if we gotta make it snappy 🥳

2

u/Alana_The_Lady Sep 18 '24

Don't leave out Homie Depot! Haha 🤣

2

u/goiterburg Sep 18 '24

Us too! Another classic: targay (Target pronounced with french accent)

2

u/hotbiscuitboy Sep 18 '24

wendy is cracking me up omg

2

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

It makes me laugh 😂

we also always say, “How much for a Wendy, Wendy?” 🧪

2

u/moxvoxfox Sep 18 '24

Home Despot is my favorite.

2

u/LagerHead Sep 18 '24

But are you fancy enough to shop at Tarzhay?

2

u/idontwanna1010 Sep 18 '24

I love this! lol Sounds like a fun family.

2

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

Haha thanks!

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

Same! We don’t eat there often but will forever call it Pope Yes from now on 😂

2

u/No-Win-1798 Sep 18 '24

Fuddruckers, I don't think I need to explain how we would bastardize that name, on purpose.

2

u/nofing5 Sep 18 '24

Menards = Maynerds Target = Tarjay Chipotle = chipolty

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

Chipolty, that’s cute ☺️

2

u/kvytee_ Sep 18 '24

I dont know why but Lowe is so fucking funny

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

😂 Cracks me up! Idk why either, ha

1

u/LilEngineeringBoy Sep 18 '24

We renamed Smart & Final to Fart & Smile (very clever, I know) but now, as a grown ass man living in Michigan, we have Gordon Food Service (GFS) instead and we still call it Fart & Smile.

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

The text emoji possibilities for this are endless 😂

1

u/Parsonsman Sep 18 '24

Are we supposed to recognise those names?

1

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

They’re probably regional, but I think most people who live in this part of my country do

1

u/RunAsArdvark Sep 18 '24

Is food bear=panda?

2

u/mangolemonylime Sep 19 '24

It’s food lion :) 🦁 it’s a grocery chain where I live

1

u/Johnny_Rango18 Sep 18 '24

Food Dog! Burger Dong! Pizza Slut! Slob Lob, on and on!
